Rainwater Harvesting | |
---|---|
Overview | Rainwater harvesting is a water conservation technique of collection and storage of rainwater that runs off from rooftops and other impermeable surfaces. This water can be either stored and reused or recharged into the groundwater. |
How Does it Works | Typical rainwater harvesting consists of four basic components: catchments, first flush divertor, filtration unit, storage tanks or recharge structure. The runoff from the catchments, typically roofs, channelled through the rain pipes enter to the first flush diverter. The first flush diverter prevents the first few litres of rainwater from entering the filtration unit. The overflow from first flush then passes through a media filter, which eliminates debris, and is stored in a holding tank or recharged to the borewell. |
